In ancient Egypt, canopic jars were ritual vessels that held and protected the organs of the dead, each one topped with the head of a protective deity. They were small guardians of the body’s most vital parts, made to accompany someone into the afterlife

This piece takes that idea of a protective vessel and reimagines it-for ashes, mementos, a talismanic object, or a private memory

The jar is carved from Carrara marble, the stone of monuments and headstones, chosen when something is meant to be remembered, On top sits a stylized 18k gold raven, black enamel scattered with tiny diamond stars. The raven, a symbol of protection, intelligence, and passage between worlds, becomes the guardian of whatever is kept inside. A white-diamond feather collar encircles the neck, completing the modern totem,
